Default Human Rights Act in for Attack.

The Human Rights Act is under attack, its been blamed, quite rightly, for the recent high profile cases which have been in the media - namely, highjackers being granted asylum to name but one.

There are calls for the Act to be axed all together, with people stating that the only people who would miss it are those criminals which are currently exploiting it to their own perverted gains. The remainder of us woudlnt see a difference in our day to day lives.

Default Labour making a big song and dance about incorporating the e

I love the way that the leaked document says, "We the ministers, will give ourselves the right to overrule what the courts say." As if the home secretary doesn't have enough power already.

Oh and the irony of labour making a big song and dance about incoporating the european convention on human rights into UK law is priceless.

I hate the way that minsters of this government scramble to get legislation together to pander to public opinion. Sometimes it's the government's job to say 'no' to the populace.

Um. How to put it tactfully but thats not right tbh. Its got nothing to do with the HRA. Its to do with the government attempting to blame anything else but their incompetence for failing to make a timely decision.

This is a blatant attempt by a Government that's in trouble over bread-and-butter criminal justice issues to distract attention from its own problems
as per article.

Oh dear. More Daily Kneejerk editorials. The act has wider and far reaching consequences - needless to say to view it wearing blinkers and focusing on one small part of it and say scrap it all is nuts. And pointless.

Because even if we did, being part of the EU, the EU courts of justice would boot our governments arses into the middle of next week if we recanted on the legislation and we'd lose every case sent there.

Just heared this on the radio. Interesting point is that a number of people are saying that the HRA is fine, it's just this Governments intepretation of the act itself that is the issue, and their ever present resolution to any **** up is to blame somebody/something else.

The whole idea of the act is to safeguard everybodies personal rights and protect us from dictatorship. What Blair is proposing is to over rule when he feels it necessary, which is one of the key elements that the act is in place to stop.

Maybe he should just get his **** out of No 10 so somebody with a sense of duty to the country can do the job.

coulnt be assed to read all that but intrestinly another i belive in all the "fariness and equality acts",

the manager at my workplace wanted be to tie my long hair back, i did so the toherday becuase it was scruffy, yesterday i washed, bruished, and straigtnened it so it was respectable,
he asked me tot ie it up again to which i refused, (dont think he was to happy a 18 yr old checkout operator challenging him) under the grounds that there are plently of female employee's in the store with their hair down, to which he tried to get around saying their girls but it was what he was implying, so due to ther faitrness acts i won the round, unless he enforces a policy across the store for all mena dn woman with longhair to have it tied back i will continue to wear mine down,

The HRA (199 was a fudge of our commitment to the European convention on human rights. The number of important sections we derogated our assess out of is comedy. But the HRA as it stands is a good thing. It is forcing the executive to abide by their own decisions and **** ups, rather then abuse the system till they get what they want. Its important for us, the masses, as it gives us positive, inalienable rights that we have never had under english law. To lose it now because a Murdoch tabloid has a problem with it? well we've done stupider things in this country, but not many.
