Showa.

KYB can be good quality, but they make some very odd design decisions. Usually to the detriment of handling and ride...

Just fitted a 2009 ZZR1400 shock to my k5 650S. Very simple install, no cutting needed but the plastic shield fitted onto the front of the battery/toolbox compartment can not be refitted as there isn't quite enough clearance to the shock reservoir (I'm not even sure what this is for, doesn't seem to do much?).

I've greased all the linkages, set up preload and some very rough default rebound and compression settings, but rain is torrential down here at the moment so not ideal testing weather Also just for initial assembly I've used a standard 8.8 grade bolt in the lower shock mount with standard thread pitch - I'll source a proper bolt before I ride it, don't fancy having that shear!

I have a quick question after reading through all of this thread - excuse me if i'm bit dim but this is my first shock change, although I have done a few other bits on the sv and am ok mechanically....

I got a bargain (like 15 squid) low mileage 636 shock from a 2006 model kwaka at work and have a couple of questions before I get cracking....
So the bike is a 2000 curvy and I weigh in at around 12 stone (168 lbs) without kit etc.. Is this shock going to be any good for me or should I flog it and get a more suitable one? If it is good then after reading this, I need to get hold of the shorter 55mm bolt (part number 92153-0663) and nut (92210-1139) for the bottom of it and do the battery box bit with a dremmel - is this correct?
Just wanna know if that all sounds like a plan before I take the bike to pieces and order the bolts etc - so please let me know.

Cheers

Ol

well, advice taken onboard from yorkie chris, and Ive shelled out all of 10 quid on a `99 gsxr 750 rear shock

Ive got to clean up the suspension linkages etc, so thought why not fit another shock while im there

While I was reading other posts, and the one above this Ive read about the new bolt I`ll need, can anyone confirm the exact bolt so i can get it ordered.

Check out http://www.alpha-sports.com/ they have all the listings for suzuki parts. Just look for the year of bike the shock is from and you will be able to see the parts numbers you require.

Or am i getting something totally wrong. Sorry if this sounds dumb but i am still learning with all this stuff.

Hiya folks, sorry for digging up an old thread, been having a good read today and think I have decided to go for a K3/4 GSXR1000 for my SK3 (am about 12-12.5 stone), I think I get most of what is required but not sure about the new bolt that's needed. Does it need to be a new bolt for the Gixxer or SV? I know it's a stupid question.... lol
