depends if its hugely loud, I can here mine over the can( which is very high level) but its quiet enough in the engine not to be of worry..however my other SV before its engine swap, had whinges, whines and the day before we swapped it, it got a tick too, but it was a ticky knock in comparison, much different to the one on the other SV, I knew that it was from the cam chain for sure, you could here it on the left side when stood next to it. The fiesta SV just ticks in general

Hi,
It could be a slightly worn /loose head stock bearing or swing arm bearing if you only hear it when your moving. Or If you hear the ticking noise when you rev the engine at a standstill and out of gear, it could be the cam chain tensioner sticking and allowing the cam chain to thrash a little. ![]() |

Out-of-balance Carb's can be a source of engine noise, something that creeps-up on you without really noticing..... surprising how much quieter an engine sounds when you balance 'em.......

Well i put my '99 SV650S through JHS for a full service, chain and sprockets the other week. That ticking noise is persistant. I take it to london and back frequently, and I dont worry one bit. I trust those guys over at JHS, cos they did my cam chain, valve clearances etc etc. So im sure theres not a problem with it.
My first bike, which was a dragstar was a little V-twin, it developed a ticking sound and never gave up the ghost. I suppose all SV's have a destinctive twin ticking sound. |

Thanks everyone for your input - i feel a lot more at ease now knowing that she's not going to fall apart !!
Does anyone know of a place that can do a proper tune/service (like JHS) but is a bit closer to home (London) Whay are all these places so far away! |
