Hello all, not been on here for a long while, and not ridden the bike for even longer
![]() Am I just being impatient, and need the battery to be fully charged or is there an actual FI problem.

if CHECK is being displayed on the dash it usually means that the kill switch is in the off position. yes yes i know your not a numpty but sometimes people forget to check the obvious

![]() No, the kill switch is in its usual position, I'm thinking maybe the sidestand switch ![]() When I first went to start it before the new battery it didn't do anything, completely dead no sign of life on the dash. I charged the battery for days and it gave it enough juice for the dash to turn on but that was it. Now with the new battery, that was reading half charged its the same, dashboard springs into life but the fuel pump sounds dead. Battery is on charge again and has been for nearly an hour, its reading 1/4 charged now, can a duff charger drain the battery?

any of the safety measures will stop the pump from priming (side stand, clutch, kill switch) give the connectors a good looking at then move the switch parts in and out a good few times might help free them off. to save battery power while starting disconnect the headlight bulbs by taking the connectors off.
haven't the foggiest about chargers but i would presume that the will just not charge if they are burgerd. |

As Bibio says any of the cutouts could be at fault*, but get the battery back on the charger until it's fully charged - this will rule out the possibility of a low voltage being a component of the problem.
*Plenty of other possibilities too, obviously.

Oh yes, rowdys a happy bunny today. Not least because I have the old girl running, thanks to my dad bringing over his battery charger but also because he has given me one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-R850GS...item27c402ba14
![]() Not mine but pretty much identicle (same colour too). The old man toppled over at some lights and went straight to his local trumpet dealer and purchased a brand new Tiger 800, so he has given me his old bike. Not suprised he fell over it is a feckin heavy old lump. The SV, well I think it was either the side stand switch or the fact it didn't want to register that it was in neutral, but a fully charged battery and with the stand up and clutch in she fired straight into life, although it sounded like a bag of spanners for a little while but has quitened down now, although for some strange reason she lurched forward and cut out, as if it had been knocked into gear but she was still in neutral ![]() Gear and brake lever are as stiff as an octagenarian that has swallowed a bottle full of viagra, but I have some nice shiney new Gilles rearsets to go on so no bother ![]()
