They are expensive to develop and expensive to make, as far as I know. Honda seem to be the only manufacture who used them on mass-produced bikes; featured on every VFR up until the v-tec

Aha- that'll do it then! A real shame. That mechanical whine is a gorgeous sound. And surely less prone to failure than chains and tensioners.

Abysmal.

however, SP1's and SP2's are gaining such a following that its likely to push up used prices. He could be doing himself a financial favour keeping the milage down

flymo...you lie!!! you lieeeeee!

donal - ask stewart next time you see him just how many VFR's he's encountered with valve train problems

You do know some Firestorms suffer from CCT failure? There is a guy on here who had, or his mate did, a Storm that was on it's third engine. More expensive to sort out than an Sv I would guess.

True, very true. I've been over on the performance bikes magazine forum, there is a big following of SP1 and SP2's there, and also RSV's...some really lovely examples. Actually, I was gonna ask you about something...that fault you have with your falco, the oil light coming on, what was the actual problem and how did yu sort it? A chap on that forum has been suffering a similar issue with his RSV
It was the oil bypass valve sticking open after an oil change. Must have been a little bit of **** got stuck in there (grrrr).

The oil bypass is a piston that gets pushing pack as oil pressure increases to relieve the pressure from getting too high. Problem is with mine sticking open it meant that at tickover to about 2K rpm the oil pressure wasnt enough to even turn the light off.

Anyway pretty easy but time consuming fix is to drop water and take side of engine off (right side) take the oil pump off and in my case touch the piston and it shoots back out. Took about 2 hours to do start to finish I guess.

As a side note, this can happen to any engine and is very rare! If it happens to an SV though its pretty much new engine time as you would have to split the cases to get to it (or so I've been told)... woops.

Firestorm CCTs worse than SV ones!
