i find the u-turn on the SV easier than the GS500 i did my test on, but i expect i'm probably more used to the feeling of slinging a bike around - have done 2 u-turns since i got the bike, one at the end of a car park and one on the road when i saw a mate driving the other way (empty road, 30 limit, still had to borrow the drop kerb in front of someone's driveway though)

the last few evenings i've deliberately been taking the bike out to the tightest places i know to get used to handling it at low speed whilst remaining smooth and observing in the right places, i find that more of a challenge than riding along a NSL

I used to be the worst rider I knew But most of the truly awful riders I know, are awful not because they can't do the basics, but because of horrible observation, showboating and decision making. Give me someone who just can't ride any day over someone who'll do a 100mph blind overtake up the side of a loch, or try and outbrake everyone at Knockhill, miss you by a foot then end up in the gravel, or wheelie past me all crossed up on a b-road.

My observations pretty good too but I'm rubbish at corners!

I used to be pants until i decided just to concentrate on my road position. It takes a while to get used to, being in the right position without thinking about it, but once it clicks its great. You can begin to use the bike so much more and get loads more enjoyment out of it.

Just like i did when overtaking those GSXR's. It wasn't nice sitting behind watching her ride like that, but looking back it makes me realise how much i've learnt. Going fast in a straight line is fun, but carrying the speed through the corners is twice as much fun.

Going slow and getting the right line around a corner is more important than blating off at 100mph on and off the throttle !!! I never have to use my brakes before a corner now unless i'm distracked or end up behind a row of traffic.

Yeah, a bloke on a fireblade. 2 up, both in jeans and tshirt. He was trying to keep up with me, and nearly crashing at every corner. He wasn't even quick on the straights. Either that, or the chap on the aprillia mille who had a 5 minute head start and that I caught up with (and overtook) 12 minutes later. And I was sticking to the speed limit and on an SV!

Sometimes you just fell like going like that when something like that happens. I love it, makes me laugh inside my helmet seeing them all over the road!!!

Just wondering, did it occur to anyone that the reason that "hubby" was in front may simply have been because he knew the way?

Can I also say that I find it very amusing that we all assume the rider in front was a bloke and the one behind a woman. Could have been father and son, mother and daughter, hubby following wife, two best mates who happened to be buying bikes together...

Just a thought...
