Ok back to topic. How far up the sight glass do you tend to fill the oil, mins level with the F, I'm just thinking it may help if I take a bit out? Whats the best way to take some out, would a syringe work?

I keep mine about half way between the two marks, best way to get some out is to undo the oil filter and let it run out from there IMHO.

How many miles has the bike done? (sorry if you have already said). Just if it is really high milage there is a chance its worn inside... though saying that it could be worn already, might be unlucky enough to have a choclate gearbox . Though id hope not

It's done 18k so hopefully it's not knackered!

I've been having the same problem with changing from 1st to 2nd, and putting it down to rider error. Then on Wednesday my gear lever fell off. It must have been coming loose for some time. We have refitted it and tightened it back up and so far so good. I am hoping that was causing the problem, and it'll be ok now. Fingers crossed.

If you're having trouble with gear changes, as well as the other things people have suggested here, have you tried oiling both the ball and socket joints (under rubber covers) on the gear shift mechanism (bit that connects the gear lever to the actual gearbox).

I went through a similar thing- had trouble changing from 2nd to 3rd and then back down again. Then spotted the gear lever and footrest were loose. A quick tighten sorted it out nicely.

I also had to straighten my linkage rod- I think it got bent when I dropped my bike early on. Breakers sent me a replacement that was too long (a naked one?) so I had to sort it out with a hobby vice and pure muscle!!
