Default Honda XR125 / CG125 help

Does anyone have a XR125 or CG125 around a 99 or 00 'V' reg?
I bought a xr 125 engine for a go kart project with the loom, cdi, rectifier etc etc but didnt see it running (stupidly).
The guy seemed genuine and im sure the engine is fine but im not sure about what battery it takes and some of the loom had been butchered so could do with a wiring diagram.
From reading what info is available on the interweb the xr does run on 12v but earlier ones 6v but cant find anything about when this transistion is or i cant find anything on any part of the engine or loom etc that says 6 or 12v.
Any help greatly apprecaited.
Phil

CG125 has been 12v for donkeys years I think. Very early one was 6V. (and had points and condenser not CDI)

I have got a 84 cg125 engine with points and condensor as well which is 6v i think (it says 6vac on the coil), but didnt want to spend loads replacing everything to get it going so bought a later xr125 engine with electric start etc, but cant get it going with 12v so thought it might have been 6v, albeit when i bypassed the starter relay and got the starter motor turning it sounded normal speed which i presume if it was 6v would have run quicker?
Somethings not quite right with the info i have on this motor as there is no info about the year the guy said it was.
I bought a haynes manual for a cg125 cos i think the majority of stuff is the same.

There's the problem, the number on the crankcase is not readable, without accusing anyone it looks like it been defaced.
After going through haynes manual it looks like the wiring is very similar to a cg of around 2000 ish.
I think its 12v and i think i found one or two of the problems.
Firstly the starter relay doesnt click or read any continuity across the terminals when activated so thats buggered.
Secondly, the clutch has to be pulled in, gears in neutral and the wires which would go to the clutch lever are open and not connected to anything or each other so that must be why nothings happening.
Gonna try this stuff tomorrow so fingers crossed.
Gotta stack of stuff to do on this go kart so dont really wanna spend too long on just getting engine going if i can help it.

They are simple enough that I would not use a loom.

Thats my plan once i have it running, to simplify it a bit.
Dont wanna start chopping stuff i dont know a lot about yet.

Wife already thinks im barking mad for taking on another distraction when i dont get much time as it is so getting this sorted is a bit of a priority for me at the minute .
