I've got a DRZ, and while it's fun in its own right it def isn't a replacement for a sportsbike - low on power, but also the suspension and brakes do not cut the mustard, and it carries a fair amount of weight. I have it cos it's cheap, fun, easy to work on and can do a bit of off road, but I wouldn't replace my Gixxer with it.

Have ridden the 510 husky and although it looks fabulously gorgeous, weighs next to nothing, and is very 'on it' to ride, it isn't really an everyday bike, and seems to need more attention than say the KTMs. Noone I know with a similar Husky has done more than a few thousand miles on theirs, or has it as their only bike.

A KTM 690 sounds like a good bet - you get great suspension and braking mixed with real world everyday functionality. Plus I've seen some nicely tricked up ones and they look awesome

Also, the service from KTM and their dealers tends to be very good - my OH had a leak develop in the fuel tank from his 3 yr old SuperDuke, and they replaced the whole tank without quibble, free of charge. Compare that to the hoops that I've had to jump through with warranty claims on my Gixxer...

This guy has a few gd vids on his drz (seems to keep up pretty well), playing various sm's and sportsbikes on some gd roads.

Cheers fizzyfish. I like the 690 alot, as much as I like the smcit will prob be the sm I would get. They are pricy though, you can almost pick up 950 for that price but I guess it's a completely different bike.

The fact that it is a single is pretty attractive, wonder what reliability is like?

I'm gonna try get a test ride up at sideways near me.

Good vid of the drz, but his and his mates riding isnt exactly worthy of posting imo
Solid double lines have the same meaning in the states as well as here,

Things I have learned so far:

Need to live/work close to a petrol station and go past a few as the tank is pretty small, still I did get 100 miles before the light came on.

Seems a lot wider than the CBR so filtering is a learning process again.

Super high riding position, definitely a plus point.

Nothing you bought for your sports bike will work with it, cover, stand, lock etc. so whatever the bike costs you factor in replacements for all that.

My commute is mental now!

How come stand dont work?
Cover should work on most of it unless you had a small cover before

Sorry I meant Abba stand doesn't work with it.

Cover fitted both my SV and my CBR-RR but shows the wheels on the husky, well it did until I decided to do away with my mirrors, now fits snuggly!

why are you using kph mate?, to make it sound faster?, 100kph is only about 60mph, google says 62 mph and 120kph is 74.5mph, i suspect he is used to going faster than that on the gixxer

Wouldn't dream of it.
