Yes, go for a smart charger, which will hopefully help a dead battery back to a good state.

Doesn't always work if the battery is fubarred

Optimates are usually for long term connection.

They will do either, can take them 3-4 days to fully revive a knackered battery though (which is different from a healthy battery that is discharged).

Well I never had a problem with my battery before, but I remember when doing the oil change in Sept it -just- about started after what seemed like an eternity. After standing for 6 months I expect it will be discharged, but hopefully not knackered
