Irons, you've already confirmed that you would support this measure even if it was proved to be incredibly ineffective. You've also stated that we should all wait until innocent people are actually punished before worrying that they might be.

Isolate those two points. You've got to see that's just crazy talk dude. C'mon, you've just got to.

i will support the measure as long as it removes any number of uninsured vehicles from the road. That i can only see as a good thing for everyone who bothers to stay legal.

i dont think its a case of waiting to see if innocent people are punished or not but people are making case's against this with things that may not ever happen. if people are punished where they should not be then my view on this will change very quickly but until that happens i dont see the point in rubbishing it on a what if. you have all got to agree this measure should remove SOME uninsured vehicles?

Now I fully agree that uninsured vehicles shouldnt be on the road.
What I dont agree with is that it can become an offence to have a vehicle with no insurance that isnt used on the road.Find another way to catch uninsured drivers on the road.

By then it will be too late - it will be law and much more unlikely to repeal, than if it had be fought and rejected in the first place

Pain in the neck for some people yes bit it's always been the case that of your vehicle is off road for some time it should be declared
Why would anyone want to pay more tax than they need to?
Not the case. It will be making CURRENTLY innocent people, into law breakers, current law states you have to have a valid certificate of insurance to use a vehicle on the public highway, now it will be, you need a valid certificate of insurance, even if you don't plan on using your vehicle (and thus not needing insurance, as it can't be involved in an accident) on the highway, but have tax. It has also only been the case for a few years that you have to SORN. Before that, you didn't have to.

Well said.

You can't justify a new law, unless it has high odds of doing what it says, in an efficient and effective way. It's just another ridiculous law brought in to try to do something it is ill equipped to do!

I could take this to the extreme bu saying I could remove ALL uninsured drivers from the road in one of 2 ways. Either tax everybody over 16 so as to cover the cost of a government insurance, or make it illegal to drive.

There, job done! Where's my seat in parliment?

I'd just call that a bit of advice and an honest opinion, not an insult.

Either / or, but no indication of which or both I believe to be true? Nope, that's not an insult in my eyes either.

I can't decide on your level of intelligence from a forum because I don't think your posts are your genuine opinions, so I don't have something solid to judge you on. For the record though, this thread had died a natural death, then you re-awoke it with an opinion completely contrary to those that had been expressed throughout most of the thread, then you've spend the whole day defending those opinions tooth and nail with bollox that nobody agrees with, and if it wasn't for the fact that you keep arguing about it, none of the people who have posted here today, would have posted here at all. You have enticed the entire debate, then kept it going, misquoting people and changing the context of their posts.

In my opinion, you are a troll, and I'm certainly not the first forum member to think it.
