I'm not really that bothered tbh, I'll just laugh when we can't leave our homes cos all the new laws introduced unapposed will have us tied up in knots, too frightened to do anything about it.

Exactly this.

The whole SORN thing was introduced so they could easily catch people driving without tax. Well that didn't work either did it? But here we are still stuck with facing prosecution if we don't declare the vehicle off the road each year. Have they revoked the law? Obviously not. It's an easy revenue earner for those unlucky people who forget and do not get a reminder to do so. I'll state again, I have not received a reminder to either SORN or tax my vehicle. I just happen to have it set as a reminder on my calendar. Else I would have ended up on the dirty end of a stupid system that is pointless.

I have also stated before, but will state again (as also pointed out by YC) they have the ANPR system which will pick out any vehicle without tax, insurance or mot. They don't need anything else. Further to this statement, they don't even have to have paid police to operate it. A bloke at work that works for me is a special police officer. He is very often on ANPR duty. Just spend more money on more ANPR systems instead of into a scheme that is going to do next to nothing in deterring illegal drivers on the roads.

They get the illegal drivers and we don't have to put up with more crap to make sure we are not breaking the law by sitting in front of the TV.

I got a letter warning me to SORN or tax the vehicle, threatening to fine me, and advising that my XT600 could be seized and crushed, 5 weeks AFTER I'd taxed it! And to make it worse, when I went to tax it I realised that I had never received a V5 from the DVLA (they had never changed the keeper and hence I didn't get a reminder either), and the new keeper suppliment is only valid for six weeks, so I couldn't tax at the post office, I had to do at the DVLA office Northampton. I had done it at their office and with their staff, and they still sent out the warning letter thinking that it hadn't been done.

I cannot believe how many pages of guff there is here.

In my PROFESSIONAL experience, uninsured drivers don't buy car tax, nor do they bother getting the vehicle registered in their name or MOT it.

Further to this, it may (highly likely) lead to further vehicles being unregistered....what happens then when they run into the side of your car? You pass the registration mark to the Police but we can't trace it becuase, guess what, they've not registered it.

This may catch out a very, very small number of people but I am not convinced it will sort out the people who are really needing it.

No no no, it was labour going back to their red roots. If everything is illegal they can arrest anybody for anything.

Irons will make sure they have no opposition cos "if you're not doing anything wrong you've got nothing to fear"

So now we have a copper, as well as someone in the insurance industry, that both think it wont do what it's designed to do. But the bureaucrats, who have 2 houses, cars/insurance/tax paid for by us and are living it up on expenses, think it's a bloody good idea!

I know who I'll believe!

lol@yorkie

i liked that one

if this bothers any of you get off your **** and do something about it instead of moaning on an internet forum
arguments such as ANPR have flaws in that they cant capture every single car on every single road and with restrictions being put on their use even less will be caught. this law will not change most peoples lifes in any way so where is the big deal?

me? dont really care about it as it will never ever affect me. just about done on this, dont want Ralph to get to angry that someone dont agree with him

no MOT=invalid insurance haha please

Irons, your very clearly on the wind up. There's no other reason for your latest post. Part of the noble art of the wind up is to get out on a high. Keeps them wondering if you're serious or not.

I've made my feelings clear on this subject via my professional body but I also like a moan on an internet forum. It's always beneficial to test your ideas against an opposing view.

I wrote to my MP and had a whinge about it.
I guess you don't care about the "anti-terror" laws when they are used to harrass innocent people then?

"when they came for the communists... when they came for the unionists..." etc. etc.
