Read the OP folks, "The disk only goes half down onto the pads as its diameter is much smaller than the old one. "
Unless the previous owner of your bike did something odd like fit another bike's wheel or modified the position of the caliper (and fit a bigger brake disc to "correct" this), you clearly have the wrong brake disc. Ask the seller for an explanation/replacement/refund. |

JC is correct. Diameter is smaller..
I've taken photos to show it better. As for grease on the disk, nope no grease, yes did clean it, and no that didn't make it smaller! ![]() ![]() Cheers |

yup, question is, how much less effective is the brake with only that much of the pad on it?

Personally I'd be inclined to go and purchase the correct size disk...

pretty sure I will be buying new disk within few days (so much for saving money). So from this I guess you can't raise the calipers / pads to fit onto disk better.

You could I suppose but you would probably run into interference issues, end up with an overall less powerful brake. And spend ages at it.

Looks like a pointy rear disk on a curvey to me. To see what other Suzuki models rear discs fit your bike and this link may be useful (also good for people who like to play "mix & match with wheels, forks etc")
http://www.allbikeengineering.co.uk/abe/brakediscs.pdf With this info you can widen your searches on Ebay and if the seller doesn't list the size you know what to ask. Personally I wouldn't run that disc caliper setup (not because of reduced efficiency - I have actually converted my curvey rear brake to a pointy because I find the curvey brake too powerful!), because it will be trying to skew the pistons in the calipers. |
