They're heavy cars and only made maybe 200hp new. Any smoke would likely be burning oil, and you'd probably get more anemic rattle and wheeze than roar Earlier models weren't all choked up with emissions gear and did indeed have some real power.

I get the V8 thing though. When I moved here (almost 2 years ago) I really wanted a used BMW 540 (given they're fairly inexpensive) for the V8-thrill. Then as I realised what knobs BMW drivers seem to be, I decided I didn't really wanna be painted with that brush.

I've seen some really shocking American "muscle" cars here -stuff made after the mid 70s to current (trans-ams, mustangs and 80's vettes) - and always wondered what inspired people to ship them over (some would be worth less than the shipping). Or are they leftovers from US servicemen?

What you want is a Vauxhall (Holden) Monaro.

It's a fab film, so is Cannonball Run and the others of that era.

If you want a proper american muscle car, you have to get a classic, one of the old originals or you'll be left with a bitter taste of disappointment in your mouth. If you can get one from the late 60's/early 70's, you'll be laughing!!!

I got Cannonball run on DVD.

On the subject of cars I wouldn't mind a General Lee .

My brother had use of a corvette years ago.
We had lots of fun in it
Just pull out of junctions sideways with the wheels spinning at 10mph

That'll be a dodge charger then. What you really want is a plymouth roadrunner superbird. Same basic bodyshell but elongated and homologated for nascar.
Personally I would like a chevrolet camaro ss circa 1967.
