http://www.sv650.org/camten/pic8.jpg Read from section 3-109 from this manual http://rapidshare.com/files/34396294...ngine.pdf.html for cam timing. If your only doing one cyclinder, then match the cam positions on the one your not doing with its photo from the manual buy rotating the cam to F mark until it matches, then rotate the crank another 360 degrees to the F mark again and set the cams on the cyclinder you are doing with its photo in the manual. I've reached the next obstacle, I've phoned round a few bike places and no one seems to do valve shims locally. Anyone know any where close to north cheshire / south manchester?
Failing that, I'll have to shell out for the parts on wemoto. |

hot cams shims are £2.50 each free delivery on ebay.
Wemoto were out of 1.65mm shims last week. What you need? i have a spare 1.55mm and 2 x 1.72mm |

Good afternoon all.
I avoid using pattern shims, as they don't seem to be made to the same standards as genuine ones. Honda shims can be used, although they're over a fiver each these days. If you have a Honda dealer locally you'll need to ask for shims for a CBR600, Fireblade, or VFR750/800. Cheers. Last edited by Spanner Man; 02-02-10 at 11:02 PM. |

The shims I need will most likely be 1.70mm.
I have 3x 1.75s and 1x 1.78 on the exhausts. All clearances will just a little less than specified so I figured that I'd need 4x 1.70s to put me just under .25 (middle of the limits). Thank you for the offer of your 1.72s but I think I'll need just a little more clearance than that. However, the inlet valves were about on the minimum, 0.1mm, possibly a little less but I don't know how much resistance there should be on the feeler. I might just have a look at these shims to see if its worth the money doing all 8 valves now. Oh, I managed to make a tool for the CCTs -no problem. Once i had the bolt off the end of the CCT i understood the why/how etc. of the problem. |

I was gonna do all of mine, but it seems common sense that even if the valve clearance are near the limit that they would still be good until the next 15k service, otherwise suzuki wouldnt set the clearances at the figures they have.
Or to put it another way, at 15k and a 0.21mm clearance, this should safely take it to the 30k service safely. Even though the clearance will dip below 0.2 by that time. Something like 0.15mm or under will be the real limit, and the extra 0.05 is the safety buffer. |
