So what is the point of this? To try and catch you if you let tax lapse on a vehicle you're not using for no insurance offence as well?
What the **** is the point in being legal these days?

Worth a letter to your MP.

+1 Mines already done. Ask them to oppose the CIE and raise your concerns with the Minister responsible.

Remember that this is an automatic guilty scenario, they don't need to do anything or catch you doing anything, if your vehicle is taxed and the insurance database says no valid insurance, the letter will be generated automatically. Kerching.

.....and you thought speed cameras were bad.

I think this needs some active protesting, declare SORN for a day or two and then retax every month, they'll soon get fed up with the paperwork if a few million do it. Remember there's no penalty on tax disc refunds, you get the full pro rata refund (at the 12 month rate) providing you send it off before the first of the month. Send off for the refund on the 29th, retax the vehicle on the 2nd. Perfectly justifiable, you were going to have it SORNed off road for a few months then changed your mind, no law against that.

EHH?????
People don't insure their bikes if they are off road for winter?

ALL my bikes are insured even if they are SORNd, as two are at the moment, what if someone nicks em? Its easier to buy a tax disc if I 'might' decide to put one on the road, than faffing with insurance, can't see the problem myself.

yea but thats different so your fine. i cant see why you would object to this. It means all a copper has to do is check your tax disc. if its valid you have insurance. if not your booked kiddo!

It's all done by ANPR anyway, which is connected to MIB.
This has no conceivable benefit to the public.

There will still be the same number of unregistered, uninsured vehicles on the road. Just more innocent road users who may get careless for a few days getting serious convictions and fines against them. It's a f***ing travesty.

well no, if you dont have insurance, for a few days or not your in the wrong. Normal coppers dont ahve anpr so it would be a benefit as it would just take a quick glanse of a tax disk?

No, if you dont have insurance for a few days and you are not driving the vehicle you are not in the wrong. there are many conceivable situations where you may have a vehicle that is taxed but not insured. I think you have misunderstood, Looking at the tax disk would tell a copper that you have tax and nothing more. You already need insurance to get road tax, but if you have a car/bike that is taxed but not insured you would be getting a letter through the door, regardless if it has been seen on the road because they are checking the DVLA database.
