What was said at the time of buying insurance?

I'm surprised I've found H&R to be one of the most straightforward/'friendly' insurers I've used.
When I was restricted everytime I got a quote, I'd ask whether it mattered if I was on a restricted licence or not, if I remember rightly some were funny , others weren't. One said they only need to see proof in the event of a claim, I asked if an invoice from the garage that fitted it would suffice and they said yes.

Whether you're going to lose out or not is usually determined on what was agreed when you bought the policy. If you bought online, it should say in the small print , if you bought on the phone they should have explained it or you could try to claim (well you were really IMO) mis-sold the policy and go for a full refund. However, insurance companies are ****s so really you need to cover your own back by asking when buying

Most companies IME are not bothered about asking for or proving your bike is restricted. Your licence restricts you and they know this when you give them your details.
Bet they still extort him for 'admin fees' despite the fact they will have never allowed him to use the product (insurance) he bought from them and they mis-sold it him.

....if they're anything like other insurers.

My dad does all the work for insurance etc finding best price bla bla etc & has done for many years and never had anything this silly happen before, they even got my age wrong when policy was bought online/also on phone. Rawrr... its annoying as iv been trying to comply with law and everything, but they make it so hard to do everything & if i had got stopped i wouldn't of had insurance .. also when we rang up they demanded the dyno sheet, they stated that * on a ninja 250rr i wouldnt need any proof of restriction as thats whats the bikes made for, however they dont trust suzuki's ecu's when there made to do there job..*

They sent me the letter stating it was going to be cancled if i dont send them a dyno, but guess what ??? i get to keep my breakdown cover and my otheir cover(forgot which haha) which is useless so therefore that's been mis'sold as i cant use it also..

You're just going to have to dispute it then.
Maybe ring up/get someone else to ring up for a fake quote and enquire craftily about restriction - see what they'd say to a potential new customer , see if you can catch them out.

Not sure I'd let anyone else by insurance for me, it's your licence at the end of the day and if they **** it up it's you that suffers/your fault.
It's great on traffic cops when the mardy chav kids have their uninsured vehicles taken off them because mum forgot to pay the premium.

Make a formal complaint and state that you will approach the Financial Ombudsman service if they fail to acknowledge that they did not state that the dyno was required at the point of sale and foot the expense of the dyno if they wish to pursue it.

The FOS charge the insurance company 500 quid for every complaint they have to investigate - regardless of whether or not that complaint is upheld in your favour or theirs. They can appeal for their money back in some circumstances, but they have to pay up front first. You might find this makes them more amicable.
