Thought I had more pics than this
![]() View looking down into battery box, the box has been cut to accommodate the reservoir, the fuse holder relocated (the fuses can fit in the space adjacent to the res) to be below the battery. Its not clear in this picture but the bottom of the box is largely intact, just the corner is removed (junior hacksaw and a stanley knife) ![]() New home for the fuse box, don't forget to add a bit of protection where the fusebox loom enters the butchered batterybox. ![]() Battery sat back in the box. As the battery is sat on top of the res, put a bit of protection in there between the res and the bottom of the battery (cardboard/foam). ![]() You will also have to trim the part of the tank hinge assembly which used to hold the battery in place, its obvious how much when you attempt to put the tank hinge back on. The battery now will sit a little proud of the frame: ![]() This isn't a bad thing in my case as with a small amount of packing (another card and foam combo) the seat holds it nicely in position. Its been like this for 12 months with no visible signs of any movement.

Thanks Grant. Just out of interest, was it a B1h shock you fitted (silver with black spring)?

Black with Silver spring, showa. Actually it's an 07
This may be of interest if you don't want to cut the box. http://sv650.eviltwinsbk.com/zx6r-sh...1st-gen-sv650/

Everyone pretty much goes through the process above, unless you're lucky and have the exactly correct shock to fit and so have to make no mods at all. So first thing is to correctly identify your shock.
The website above is very informative, and I think you've mentioned getting info (I presume from the SV Rider Site). Two other options to consider is changing the linkage which will have an effect on the height of the shock (and thus how much it protrudes into the battery tray) or getting a smaller battery to simply making fitting everything in a little easier. I did the latter and it worked for me on the pointy. There's always an element of trial and error, but the actual fitting itself is fairly straightforward. |

Edit: This is the best picture I could find of the 636 B1H - https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/phot...eat=directlink Also another thread from here showing the B1H fitting to a pointy - http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=163563. Last edited by Runako; 25-06-13 at 10:43 AM. |

It does indeed look like the shock in those photos, but have dropped YC a PM just to confirm. Thanks again Ronnie.

I may be testiculating but I can't see how changing the linkage at the bottom would affect the relative position of the res to the battery box, surely this is set from the top attachment bolt (this being fixed to the frame).

You're probably right but my thinking was shorter bones would pull it down. Its still not the way I would go though as it changes the spring rate curve (not that most, including me back then, would know the difference).

It'll just pull the spring and piston down, can't affect the top as its fixed.
Agree you shouldn't go changing the dog bones, get a shock that is the right length.
