Default Re: Honda NT650VX Deauville buying advice?

Just to clarify a couple of things.

The fuel pump issue is on the carb 650 only (not 700 injected). It's a common pump used on Transalps etc and the issue is points burning. This can be cured (99% anyway) by adding a diode as described here . Mine's done 40k miles with no problems at all. Replacement points can be had from Wemoto etc. If the pump stops working it can be bypassed and use gravity feed as a temporary measure, the only thing is that you can't use the last 4 lts or so because it's lower than the carbs. Alternatively as YC says fit a Facet for around £35, no big deal really.

The brakes are fine if working properly, just like on an SV, either the early Brembos (a touch sharp) or the later linked Nissins. Neither give anything like as much trouble as SV calipers. Early "warped disc syndrome" could often be cured simply with abrasive cleaning and different pads (they weren't warped but that was the common diagnosis because it's easy and someone read it once somewhere....)

You very rarely need to remove much of the plastics, most things can be done with maybe just the cubby boxes removed (despite what Mr Haynes might say). Haynes says remove the panniers to do jobs when it simply isn't necesary. The tank will come off without removing anything else.

I know most people love to hate Deauvilles, but they do what they do very well and comparatively speaking they are very reliable and durable if given basic maintenance. If you want fun don't go there, but if you want practicality it's worth considering. Not everyone wants a supermoto for example, but they have their place.

That's my little bit anyway.
