Sounds like the pads went into the brakes and needed pushing back out again. Not a concern...happens if you drop it or summat. Or do big stoppies
Grease the brake pedal pivot, it makes a huge difference.

Reel that fish in I'll grease that pivot and see what happens.

anyhoo the build quality on me old SV is starting to hack me off.

Rusty brake discs and exhaust...bar stewards...Suzuki and build quality. Never met.
