Almost forgot to say it`s an imported bike as well of which I have changed the speedo dial to show m.p.h. instead of k.p.h.

Sorry but "banging" it should not be doing really? Burbles and bumbles yeah for sure that is one of the main joys of a Vee Twin. Sounds like a touch too much unspent fuel for some reason?

Have a peep at your plugs, are they a bit passed it? Are they quite black and "wet" as opposed to say a light chocolate colour(at the tip that is)Does the bike run reasonably evenly at tick over when warmed up?

It could be misfire caused as mentioned by the dreaded carb icing at this time of year.

i believ there's a carb balancing tube that's supposed to have a cap, i ended up putting a screw in it to fix similar problem, lost the screw again now and its a pain on cold days

Both my '01 SV and my K4 GSXR back fired on overrun, due to tuning which left unspent fuel in the exhaust syystem. I loved it, but it could get a bit much riding through villages on a Sunday morning.

I suggest you get somebody who knows about SV's to look at it, not any old dealer, one who has had a lot of experience with them. As you have got the bike 2nd hand, it would be useful for you to know what has been done to it in the past.

Hi - I think chatterbox is on the right track here. To get a good backfire ( rather than just a bubble and a pop) you need air to be getting in to the exhaust system. A leak at the manifold is probably the most likely cause.

"Just" Chances are, to make it go away on a curvy, you need one go on a dyno and maybe different jets, should cost roundabout £23
