I would suggest a quick call or visit to your HR department and ask about the opt out. You could even say that you would be happy to still do two weekends a month. I would say that if you have to work every Saturday and Sunday, you definately have leverage to ask for a reduction in your Sunday shifts as you can use the same kind of lines I gave Hovis. You cannot have a very full relationship with friends and family if you can never see them can you!!

I think in your case, ask the questions, then if you need to, come back here and we'll all see how we can help. Give your HR dept. a call now if you can.

Religious reasons! You can't go wrong, they can't complain.

Seriously its the best reason. Aparantly you cant be made to work sundays.
Say youve recently given your life to christ and wish to worship him incessantly every sunday. Well, make it sound a little less farfetched.

Easy,

"I believe that the impact of the proposed new working pattern will be minimal on both the service area and my colleagues as I have been proactive in ensuring that the shift will be covered. Because of this, none of the other colleagues need to worry about changes to their own shift patterns and I will be more than happy to assist in making the transition as smooth as possible. By ensuring a comprehensive handover with the colleague that is taking up the shift, I can reduce the impact on the service area for the benefit of the whole team."

How's that?
