I am the friend who's had a look at the bike. Cam chain tensioner if definatly doing its thing. Checked all the valve clearances and they are well within acceptable limits. There is no sign of anything (Cam shaft bearings etc) having got too hot.
When we put it all back together and had it idleing while I blead the cooling system it sounded sweet. Then all of a sudden you could hear a very pronounced mechanical knock from time ot time.
The only things I didn't check where the cam shafts end float and run-out.
My money is still on it being a little end failing at the mo.

my curvy had something like that a while ago did a full service and it went away , i think it was etheir oil or front sprocket, not very helpful but its worth doing incase it goes away like mine

It's a very sharp metalic knock coming from half way up the front cylinder, and the noise gets worse when the engine is under load.
It's not going to dissapear whith an oil change.

Like I said I reakon little end bearing or piston slap.
The only real way to tell is pull the head off it (pardon the expresion).

Thats a BIG job is it not? I spoke to my unc and reackons it is to do with the clutch! He metioned the Thrush Bearing rod????
