Like ipap I always use my airline, and I've never had one I couldn't get out...perhaps I'm not letting them seize for long enough...?
The only danger with using air is it will go with one hell of a bang if you do it uncontrolled. I put several old pads in the caliper (with it on the workbench disconnected from the bike) and then blow the pistons out a bit, remove one pad and pop them out a bit further...and so on making sure all the pistons come out evenly. Easy and much less mess than trying to do it on the bike. |

When they are secondhand calipers and the dust seals are rolling out of their recesses then air does not shift them. Ones that get serviced at decent intervals are fine.

once dust seals are rolling out, you can pull them all the way out before removing he piston.
