Its most folks perogative. Normally people re-insure a week or so prior to their renewal date, to get cheaper quotes or not to be caught without.

I'm still not sure what the fuss is about. Unless of course somebody likes to ride/drive around with non of the above.

If you cant catch real criminals then make criminals out of those you can catch.
So now you can be guilty of having no insurance even if you dont take the uninsured vehicle on the road.Another way for innocent people to get caught up in the legal system for absolutely no good reason.

Insurance lapsed over winter and can't be *rsed to SORN and retax it.

Think about it, if you were of a mind to ride/drive without insurance you buy a cheap POS, don't register it in your name and don't bother to tax or insure it.

When caught you probably get done for LESS than the (fixed!) fine proposed for people not doing owt wrong!!

This law will NOT hurt the crackhead mongs running about in uninsured deathtraps.

Be reasonable, when is the last time a normal plod "had a glance" at your tax disc? How many ANPR cars/traps have you been past in the same period? The REAL criminals will still get caught by the same means as before!

Funny, I forgot to swap my tax disc, and left the new one at home.....then got pulled by that unmarked car a few weeks back. He never even bothered to look the bike over.

So I suppose they don't really look...unless they reallly have reason to.

This is being introduced as a way to keep unisured drivers off the road? Do they really think this is the answer? Anyone that knowingly drives/rides without valid insurance sure isn't going to be bothered about if the vehicle is taxed or not and vice/versa.

The point is not that a vehicle has to be insured if it has tax, it is the point that someone can be guilty and given a penalty for NOT being on the road without valid insurance. If I have a bike in the back garden and I do not wish to insure it but it has two months tax left on it, I actually have to go through the process of returning the tax disc and declare it SORN just so I am not a criminal. This sounds like a case of 'we' don't trust you, even though 'we' have no reason not to. So to take temptation out of the way...

There have been plenty of times I have had no insurance on a vehicle but had road tax remaining. Especially when between selling vehicles. Changing the insurance from old vehicle to new one. Tax remaining on old vehicle helps in selling it. I would have been guilty of an offence. How chuffin stupid...

a simpler solution would be to make it more affordable in the first place. reeding this forum i see that there is a lot of people paying thousands for insurance and in my opinion its not right. now they are saying that our premiums will be rising by £30+ to compensate people who have been hit by uninsured drivers, crap is what i say. if the insurance was more affordable in the first place then people would buy it. i've been insuring my car for 20+ years and never claimed on it but my premium still goes up every year, its feckin greed pure and simple.

Exactly this.
If you think that it wont affect you because you always have your bike insured when its taxed then good for you, but you will wake up one day and find that the hundreds of other similair peices of legislation that have been passed have turned Britain into a place where its a complete pain in the **** to go about your business and honest hard working citizens are hassled and harangued at every turn by jobsworth stasi *******s standing on mountains of bureaucracy.

I've also known people who can't afford to keep / run a vehicle all the time, but have an old (road legal) vehicle in the garage so they just arrange a days or weeks insurance when they need it (although they'd keep it taxed). Not economical, but suited their needs.

This means that they could not feasibly do that. It is their right to insure the vehicle as they choose provided that they don't use it on the road.
