When I had my bike and GPS, I just stuck the gps onto the RPM dial display using the GPS' air suction holder.

I know that's not the best thing to do, but it was well out of the way of the steering and you don't need to look at the RPM to know when to change gears.

Thanks Musne, but I don't think that option would work for my iPhone

They can be bought on ebay for not to much monies.
Hey Savage86, I've checked on eBay and found a few....even found it cheaper from a breaker/salvage website.

One last question (I hope ) - the hole is definitely smaller than what I need, so wondering what to so.......just drill it? (doesn't sound easy).

Thanks for your help so far.

So I've taken another look at my stem nut and it actually has a hole in it........a small hole

I walked into my local dealership (Flitwick Motorcycles) and they said they can actually make the hole bigger for me, however they were just about to close so couldn't do it today.

The chap that works on my SV is a great guy; he went to grab a socket and digital vernier caliper, took the stem nut off and measured the diameter for me............next thing, he came out with a nut that fitted perfectly and said I could come back in a few days to pick my stem nut.

The temporary nut he gate me isn't pretty, but it will do the job of holding stuff in place while mine is being widened........here's what my bike is going to look like for the next few days.

I'm currently doing some work with regards wiring for my kit using a relay and a distribution block........once that's done and the stem nut waterproof holder is installed, riding on the bike would be much more interesting

From the picture you put up your getting a ram mount? They are brilliant. I have one on the sv but with a u-bolt clamp that goes round the clipons (or bars on a naked). Saves messing about changing top yoke nuts and you can just unbolt it and swap it onto a different bike with ease if you need to.

Yes Sir, I'm getting a RAM mount.
I haven't got clip-ons and there isn't space on the handlebars for a U-bolt.

I got in touch with Bob at Telferizer last night after reading a few posts on here; initially, I wasn't sure how it worked, however he sent me the mail below and after speaking to him, it's clear that I don't even need to widen the hole.

Hi Ayo

You do not need to have the hole made bigger the mount is designed to fit into the hole as it stands. You simply need to take the nut off and fit the mount into the hole then screw a nut onto the underside of the nut then just refit the nut and the job is done. If you have any other questions you can ring me any evening after 6.30 on 0161 476 5701.

Regards
Bob
Telferizer

So I'm going to call the kind guy at Flitwick motorcycles and tell him not to go ahead with widening the hole cos Telferizer seems to be all I need.

I'll post a picture once it's installed..........Thanks everyone!!

UPDATE

By the time I called the guy that had my nut, he had already cut the hole and made it bigger, so I went for my original option and let Bob (Telferizer) know I was getting his mount.

I had to tinker with this for a bit before I got it to work. It appears I ordered the wrong size!!!

After tightening the Nut on the RAM with an Allen key, it just kept spinning and didn't hold firmly. I had to pull it up a little then when I tightened it it held firmly!!
It looks like the diameter of the nut is smaller than the diameter of the stem itself, I reckon if I'd gotten the next size up it would have fitted perfectly.

The weird thing is that the stem had been measured for me by the repair guy using a digital vernier caliper, so looks like he gave me a wrong reading.

So here's what it looks like.

I ordered an extending arm to give it a bit more height.

I'll give it a go later this week and see what it's like on the motorway with the tank bag on.
