problem with full on sports tyres is keeping the heat in them, unless you plan on ragging the bike everywhere your not going to get the full benefit. i don't know what yor riding skills are and you may be the next barry sheene. so my recommendation would be go for something middle of the road. like the PR2's or there abouts.

See I think I'll head the way of the michelin pures as their a step down from the power ones or I'll go the pirelli way on the supercorsas. I did look into metzeler but the k3's are just ridiculous.

I was perfectly comfortable on the D220, no chicken strips on them anyhow, but then I'd never known amything else on the SV as I bought mine new.

There is nothing 'wrong' with the D220 and if you are uncomfortable on them thats more to do with your head than the tyre.

Then I switched to the Pirelli Diablo Strada (Metz Z6 same tyre) and only then I realised the D220 were crap in comparison, but only in comparison.

Changing your tyres now may improve your confidence psychology, but there's no real reason to throw away a perfectly good pair of D220 unless you have the money burning a hole in your pocket and are desperate to spend it on improving the bike (it would be an improvement).

You could always look at the Pilot Road 2 or 3 like another member has said. Ive not ridden on them myself but my friend runs his own bike tyre business and he gets a lot of customers raving about them. he likes them too and he has ridden on pretty much any tyre you can mention from the last 20 years or so, so I trust his opinion and knowledge.

As for the Diablo Corsas, yes, I like them. I had a pair of scrubbed Dragon Corsas on a few years back and they were amazing. I loved those tyres. Very grippy, quite a stiff sidewall for less flex and plenty of feedback. The Diablos are more or less a continuation of the same. Id say slighty less grippy after using both on track, but still more than capable. I have ridden on them in the odd rain shower too and although they arent of course the best rain tyre out there, they were happy enough getting wet. You did mention that wet weather riding isnt something you plan on doing a lot of though.

Don't need a Pilot Road 2 or 3 on a 71bhp bike. I have PR3's on my 150bhp bike and it's not squaring off the rear.

The original Pilot Road is still available, much cheaper, and makes a great tyre for the SV.

For the price I pay for tyres because I work for a dealership and can get them at a cheap rate id rather go with a higher end of the scale than the roads because I might throw in the occasional track day every now and then. My old zxr400 was on a set of supercorsas and that used to stick like **** to a blanket as they heated up soo fast.

I'm going down to my tyre supplier today and speaking to my mate about what he can get hold of and what prices for me.

If you only ride the bike in nice weather for fun why are you not ragging it everywhere?

They still grip well even when not properly chewing-gum sticky at full temperature, just a matter of setting pressures right. I have never noticed them "going cold when stopping at a junction" or anything like that which people doom-mongered about when I first mentioned using them!

They don't last, but you can pick them up for £30 a set... worth a thought anyway.

Think Bibio does pretty much, but some of us got old and decided we really did give damn about getting much older.

I've seen Bibio a) in the rain and b) getting a decent shift on

You don't have to ride like an absolute *rse to get sticky tyres warm (though I would recommend it)

I have the Power Pures at the moment. They did a decent shift in France in the summer. They can get squared off on an SV, in my case because I was doing a lot of mileage on very long empty roads in good weather. But the squaring is not as noticeable as with the Pilot Power 2CT's I had before.

PP's are good in the wet but they still need a little warming up to work in the cold. By little I mean maybe 5 minutes of running at speed sort of thing. They are perfectly suitable for your kind of use and the odd track day.
