Bugger, looked like a cheap way to sort the rear, the search continues or I will end up with nitron sport. Just like the idea of a fully adjustable shock as I will be doing track days but can't afford a an adjustable nitron shock

bout the same again. its around £100 for a service.
is it money well spent... depends on how good a rider you are. you only start to tell that you have a quality shock on the back when the going gets rough and start to push the bikes capability. do i need a full 3 way shock... again depends on how good a rider you are plus if you can actually use the functions properly. there is no point having twiddly bits if you don't know how to twiddle them. the Sport is fine for most people. biggest mistake when ordering the shock is lying about what your capability's are. tell them exactly how heavy you are, if you carry luggage or a pillion most of the time and what type of roads and how you ride or you will end up with a shock that not right. they are built for you and your bike. if you plan on keeping the bike for a long time then get something that is going to last. if your not planning on keeping the bike then don't bother. if it's going to leave you skint and struggle to service the bike and keep it running then again don't bother and spend the money on keeping the bike in roadworthy condition. |

I'm mainly looking at getting the sv as a road legal track bike. It will spend most of its life on the track but will out a couple of days a year when riding with mates. However it will do do a 3000 mile trip round the alps. So it needs to flexible.
I love the sound of the sv but I know it's short comings so I want to upgrade the suspension but don't want to go over kill but on the other hand don't go to cheap and waste money by having to do the work again. Think I'm going down the spring, oil and race tech emulators on the front. |

good plan.
there is no point doing one end and not doing the other. good shock and upgrading the springs and fresh oil in the front will be better than nowt. still depends on your weight. if it's a track (mostly) bike then most of the 'swap' shocks will work well. only reason i like the nitron is no hacking things apart and i also know the life its had. swap shock can have dubious life but some can be serviced and valved to suit your needs but most will require hacking stuff on the bike. |

I weigh in at 12st at moment hopefully come down abit further. I put the shock off a k3 gsxr1000 last time but I'm unlikely to get one of those in good knick. Does any one know which shock would have the correct spring rate for my weight. Thanks

I am about the same weight as you are. Changing springs/oil and installing Nitron shock made HUGE difference.
Excellent setup from SJ Motorcycles helped as well. |
