It was more that they were built to do different things, nobody liked the Hornet 9 even though it was ace, because the Hornet 600 riders wanted a more powerful Hornet, which it wasn't, while everyone else looked at it and thought "It's just a more powerful hornet" Just like with the SV thou in fact, 650 owners tend not to like it becuase all they want is an SV650 with 120 bhp, which it isn't, it's a totally different animal... and other people think "it's just an SV" Also, the Hornet got a completely kneecapped motor with a little extra midrange but all the top end cut off. (but despite that, overlay a Hornet 900 power curve with an SV1000 and it's almost identical, just 1000rpm further up)

So, the Hornet 6/9 is better for people who liked the original hornet, as they get the same old package but with a load more power, rather than the much more sensible allrounder that the 900 is. And this I think is where these swaps actually work, rather than trying to make something better than the manufacturer they make something different.

First step if I bought a new bike would be to go through it and lob all the excess euro-baggage in a skip.

Well if you're building a "special" then it's not about what you can bolt on, it's about what you can leave off

this was tested off road of course !

it climes to 140 then gradually hits 150 and sits there. my dad believes theres more done to the engine than just gas flowed heads or could this help to create that speed

Common thing with SV's is the drastically over reading speedo, and SV won't get that far no matter what you do!

I disagree, you could lob it off a cliff

Bike speedos overread quite a bit. Only real method is the measured mile.

His must have been over-reading too

On the same note, I've had my 650 with nothing more than a free-flow exhaust system fitted (and the fuelling adjusted slightly) and it read 148 on the clocks.
I know very well that it isn't the actual speed, but it's still nice to see! lol
