Also Hindle, general consensus is that modifications will not add to the price of a bike. So don't get caught with that mate.

Nice and simple, if the Bike was manufactured between 1999 - 2002 it will be on Carbs, the orginal first generation "curvey" shaped SV is carbs.
Any bike manufacturered after 2003 will be fuel injection. The 2nd generation SV with "pointy" plastics, and the twin LED rear brake lights is FI. Quote:
Carb bikes restrict OK, as do the later style Fuel Injection bikes also restrict OK, but you would be wise to go down the ECU restriction route ( swapping the bikes electronic brain ) rather than the F.I. Internationl mechanical restriction route on a 2003 onwards bike. HTH

they look different. Anything K3 onwards is a pointy, and these are injected. Anything previous is a curvy, and these are carbed. The biggest difference is the frame - curvies have round tubed frames and pointies have squarish cast box-section frames (is that description right?)
Pointies are best restricted by changing the ECU. There's another method (FI restriction kit) but its not very good, by all accounts. Curvies are restricted in the normal way for carbed bikes - washers in the carbs, restricting the air flow. This is apparently fine. So both bikes can be restricted easily - i'd say the pointy is easier to do, but the cost of the restricted ECU might be greater than the kit for a curvy. Edit: fizz beat me... again

It's a pointy, so injected.

Tell them it doesn't have carbs and see how they respond. They'll probably be referring to the throttle bodies, and you can restrict pointies this way, but people on here have had problems with this - makes it run very rich and u get bad fuel economy.
The better way to restrict a pointy is to change the ECU.
