This original thread question sounds suspiciously like one of those discussions an embarassed patient has with his Doctor. "A friend of mine has a problem with his winkle, he's too embarassed to admit it, so he's asked me to come and discuss the symptoms with you".

Funnily enough that thing looks like it will do it's intended job (going mentally fast down a 1/4) pretty well... and probably reliably too

Dunno what you are laughing at dizzyblonde, you have same bellypan.

Anyway, CBF rots just as fast. All that end of market are POS. GS is a good bike, it's a big old GS with the ends lopped off it, can't be that bad.
Rather see them on my bike

At least the motor aint like the GPZ motor

Turbo not blower, who needs NOS. Can get 300+bhp easily.

But it looks american, has probably never seen the dragstrip

They corrode horribly, are overweight, slow, crap handling, terrible on fuel and badly braked... apart from that little lot they are average and dirt cheap. They're cheap for a good reason though, a few of them I already listed.

I've got two blown up GS500 motors kicking around at my ex-housie's place, he uses them as kinda ground anchors for his bike trailer.

Actually Chris, I have a fair bit of experience of them having cared for and serviced a few school bikes. They really are crap bikes compared to the other 500s on the market of the same era. ER5s and CB500s were far far better.

They are nothing like an old school 4 cyl GS motor - sure they have twin cams and two valves but the similarity stops there. They started life in the late 70s as a 400cc commuter bike and were slowly hogged out to 500 and suffered all the usual problems experienced when upping the capacity of an already ancient design.

No, not on any of my bikes, it vaguely appears to be like the Roca on Suzy, and its certainly not an SV1000 one from the VRap.

Its looks more like one of these to me!
