Just dont say 'valet' to a detailer
My mate does this for a living mainly on exotic cars, if you lived closer Claire he'd do it for you no bother, he does travel all over tbh, but price reflects this.
A full paint correction on a 'bad' car can cost approx £650, 2 blokes x 2 days, even 'top ups' cost £200-£300
But for 'pound notes' he would get it looking the dogs danglies for a lot less.

A detail is not a 'valet'... It's paint correction and improvement + a whole lot more than just a wash and wax of a valet. It can make a car look better than new, removes all paint fade, on a red car you would see an insane improvement on 25+ year old car. It also removes most scratches and all swirling. A valet cost no more than £50 and a couple of hours work, a detail cost £200+ and takes a couple of days minimum.

You would probably want to keep it afterwards lol

OK so you got me on that one.

Lot of effort / expense for a 25+ year old car that you have no intention of keeping. Especially as I'd imagine that Claire is wanting to maximise the profit potential. I.e. keep her costs down.

If you were in the market for a car and seen one that had been detailed professionally, youd buy it there and then, they look amazing.
Even a brand new car would benefit from a pro polish, shine a halogen light at your paintwork and see how many scratches there are.

Honestly for a £200 detail you can add £1000's in value... If it's an old red Porsche it will likely be very faded, almost white in places... Check this out for an example. Just happens to be a red 944 like claires...

If Claire doesn't do it to maximise profit then someone else will.

A couple more examples of what a good retailer can achieve on a pink to red car... It's hard to explain without seeing the transformation in person.

Have a word with Dicky Ticker. He used to be an owner, and AFAIK is a member of the owners club. Hes likely to point you in the correct direction.

Thanks everyone... all the replies have been really helpful. Will be able to have a better look at the paintwork soon so can then decide whether it`s worth the extra money being spent on it . The difference in the before and after pics is amazing!! thanks for all the input.
