The horn should be fine wherever if supported or on some sort of anti vibration mount. Andrew AFAIK any relays are external, the horns simply have a compressor motor with +ve and -ve terminals, mount relay wherever suits.
Yep!
Got it down £27 in the end as it was the bags of bullet connectors and sheaths that made it jump quite a bit. The cable tools didn't help
I'm going to have a proper look over the weekend as I did eyeball the front Cylinder mount as a candidate for the mount.

Eliminate electrics altogether.

Right here's my set up. Compressor sited under rear seat (little grey thing on left). Zip tied in place with a bit of pipe insulation to help with vibration. Tube goes from compressor to front fairing, wiring as per the diagram posted.

Seperated horn lives in left upper fairing, so light just held in place with a light metal strap, using the indicator mount.

I just mounted mine on some bits of strap ally on the rad/fairing mount as per the original pics on here somewhere. Has worked for 3yrs without probs and is full of carp from 36k miles of all weather riding...even the connectors are still functioning and they're rancid.

It is safe to run the ground from the Negative battery terminal?

I fit mine using a bracket that was drilled into a mounting bracket for the lowers of the bike (pics uploading now)
Didn't split the compressors or anything

The relay was temporary attached to the bracket, but now it's moved to where the original horn was.
