You should of said you dropped it down the stairs whilst on the way to the front door to go out for a ride.

That way, you're in the house at the time of the accident

Hi Sarah,

Have a look at a thread I posted recently about something similar: http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=84892

I think I still have a copy of the letter I sent my solicitors about the helmet - I can send you a copy if you're interested (it had links to 3 sites citing why a damaged helmet should always be replaced - thanks to help from people from this site).
I was with Carole Nash and using their solicitors (Wilmott), I got all the monies back.
When I last renewed by bike insurance, I wondered about getting leathers insurance, and someone on the board mentioned about not needing it - they'd claimed on uninsured losses twice. I can't remember who it was but if you search for my name in posts, you should be able to find it (I'll search for it later - I'm just off out now).
My household insurers (Endsleigh) refuse to cover bike leathers as they consider it sports equipment. They won't listen to the fact that it's actually more than that.

Still, glad you're generally ok tho.

thanks for that, i remember reading that thread before but didn't find it when i did a quick search yesterday.

my helmet is clearly knackered: scrapes on the front and on the visor and on the back too ( i wish i knew how i managed to scrape both the back and front but i don't have any memory of the crash itself)

It's not that unusual to have a mini black out in times of serious stress.

For example, I clearly remember deciding to ditch the bike rather than hit the wall. I think I then jumped off, 360degree spin, and ran, at about 40mph. I remember getting to the bike. I don't remember getting up off the floor, but I also don't remember running like a man possessed in full gear. A 40mph sprint would be quite an achievement!

My right boot took a nasty grind, but the rest of my gear is undamaged. I've no idea how the boot took a grind where it did (above & left my big toe).

Good news that your helmet took the hit though, and that in itself could be enough for short term memory loss. Hope you're not feeling too rough after it all.

I had an off in December, driver was completely at fault and was prosecuted by police. Received the cheque for the bike only yesterday, valued at £3,000 but 3rd party insurers paid £2,400 as bike was Cat D and they took off £600 salvage costs, i kept the bike. Solicitor currently has my estimate for replacement gear which i got from J&S. As all the kit was a year old or more in the case of leathers and boots they gave me an estimate for nearest like 4 like replacements. Last time i had a similar incident 3 years ago i received the full amount for kit replacement so expecting the same this time around. Still waiting to see the consultant for the injury though.
