yes so both measurments are wrong... you have from what you are saying is 25m static sag then 15mm rider sag...this should be the other way round..
if you have standard front forks you will end up see-sawing when you get to bumpy stuff. the back end will also go very light under heavy breaking.. to be honest with you i would soften up the pre-load some.. there is no point making the back end of your bike 'solid' if the front is 'soft'... |

ok 1/2 a stone heavier than me... and my pre-load is almost all the way down... you have to remember you are fitting a shokky that is not designed for the SV.. the ZXR1000 is a big powerful sports bike.. the SV is not..
the ZXR shokky might feel soft but its not... it just takes care of the bumpy bits better than the naff stock SV shokky... you have probably not set up the compression and rebound settings yet.. this will make a huge difference to the feel of the bike one you do.. remember thogh Fast and Slow settings are not speed related... it is Rate related as in to how much the damper moves e.g. Fast setting will be more reactive.. or put it another way.. its like compressing a spring with your hand then either letting go (Fast) or controlling it with your fingers (Slow)... its the same with H and S settings H does not mean Hard it means that it is controlling the rate at which the damper is moving out at the H setting the damper is moving Slowly.. at the S setting the damper is moving quickly... if you already understand this then i'm sorry for re-iterating... |

TBH 25mm static sag and then 15mm extra with the rider on sounds very wrong (the wrong way round as pointed out), but 40mm total sag is ok for road riding. I would definitely get all that measured again. BUT if pre-load is fully wound on and an 11st rider rider is making the bike sag 40mm I would tend to agree that the spring rate is too low for the bike. |

Preload doesn't change the stiffness at all! It only varies the starting position of the shock, just because it sinks down more or less when you sit on it doesn't mean it's stiffer or softer.
