I use facebook for putting up photo's really, I have email or phone numbers to contact people I don't already see on a daily basis

I don;t have anyone to chase up lol

But i do see the problem here, the temptation to look at things because you do and will wonder about people who you were once close with and shared alot with

Facebook is good! The reason I think we needed facebook was the advent of the digital camera. No longer do you have a packet of photo's from the chemist that you can show to your friends and family when they come round for tea. Facebook is the only way we see each others holiday snaps and Christmas days. We've had photobucket for longer, but you had to email everybody with a link to say they were there, Facbook gives a notification. Also with the busy lives we lead, and the fact that nobody sits down to make phone calls, never mind write letters anymore, Facebook keeps us up to date. It has improved communication in my life between family and close friends, no end. I often pick up the phone to have a deeper discussion about a comment made on Facebook, and often get the same phone calls.

The trick to making Facebook work for you, which is as a useful communication tool, is either (a) keep your friend list small, close friends and family only, 30 people is probably too many. Don't add virtual friends who are not real life friends, use it only for close communication, or (b) keep your friend list realistic, 100 is too many, and don't put any personal information on there that you don't want the wider audience to know.

It's a tool, use it how it works for you, but when it doesn't work, blame the workman, not the tools, and change the way you use it.

So what's this "facebook" thing then?
Seems there's a few of us not on it.
