Depends on how high the cliff is that you push it off .

dont forget of course that the dyno fails to take account of drag and friction........... thats just the theoretical maximum with the gearing and engine power.

My ZRX1200's when dyno'd had a theoretical top speed of 178mph max ive seen indicated 155-160,
reality probably about 145 max.

Somnus - How many miles has your bike done? I'm just wondering if this could be down to a combination of things including (but not limited to) it not actaully being properly run in yet? (Which has already been suggested I know)

There is internal resistance in the engine, this affects your power\speed in the same way external influences do. An engine will typically get looser with time. Too loose and things go out of tolerance and you loose power. However some time before that the engine will reach a point where it's producing it's max power, and I doubt it's after only say 1000 miles.

Just a thought. Hopefully an inspection of the bike will find something simpler though.

Whack a tom tom on the bike or some other satnav unit then you'll see how far out your speedo is. At approx 140 showing on an sv speedo, your bike is about 15-20mph out.

If you do the maths on the gearing (Which escapes me but seen it done) the theoretical top speed of an sv is about 135mph, without any friction/wind resistance etc. So, 120-125 is really the maximum speed a poor little TWIN CYLIDER SIX HUNDRED AND FORTY FIVE CC bike will go. Get real with your 140mph claims ffs.

Check fuel consumption? this could indicate an error. My rule (running off my incorrect speedo, pumping fuel out of uncalibrated pump before any knb points that out) is 40MPG ridden hard (105miles till light flashing) and 50mpg taking it easyish (135miles till light on).
