Of course not. But I'd imagine that some input is required. Perhaps the other subjects require pen to paper.

I've done many a job in the past where I had to be in work even if there was nothing to do. Clock-in, clock-out, that was the rule.
One of my first jobs was with McDonalds where we'd re-clean all the stainless steel even if it was clean.

Um, you just lowered yourself to sarcasm there. Sorry to point that out.

I don't want to pay all of my taxes. My wife and I don't have kids and don't plan to either. So I don't want to pay towards the eductation of other people's kids. I don't see the value in it for me, and could use the money better at home.

But the rules state that I have to pay, if I don't I can end up in court.

I think that really is the anal in my analogy.

At the end of the day, kids should be encouraged to question rules, when those rules are clearly stupid. Not going to get into the military thing but mindlessly following instructions isn't a good trait for anyone.

We had the exact same thing in my school when I was in 6th year, for a month we were all made to turn up at 8.45 to sign in, but then there was no way of monitoring where we went so we all just went home again. Absolutely idiotic, the only reason to do it was because some pencil neck had made that the rules. It was actually causing problems, because kids were coming in when they didn't have to then hanging around, sometimes causing trouble. Luckily sanity prevailed like I hope it will here.

We should be helping kids stay on in education, not putting speedbumps in their way.

Woah…I didn’t mean for this to turn into a debate as big as this.

Neio79 – you are being a harsh and pretty rude..there is no need to swear. Why can’t you have a debate like a mature adult rather than shooting down what people say.

How dare you say this to KitKat. She is allowed to give her owbn opinion! You’ve certainly given yours plenty of times and (as far as im aware) no-one has been this rude to you.

Anyway………..

My sister is not one of those who sods around all day and does nothing. She WANTS to go to sixth form, She WANTS to learn and get an education and go to university. I understand your point of “there are rules which should be followed etc etc…” but my sister is breaking the rules for her own benefit. She has had a 100% attendance record since she started school.

Yes there is a common room – in the sixth form block. But this is full of other students who don’t use it to study. They sit, chat and generally be loud. This is blooming distracting..! The fact she would rather go home, work here and go in for lessons, revision sessions and any other extra school related activities doesn’t make her a lady person

Sixth form is still similar to college. If anything the students are regulated more heavily in terms of attendance. College is more “do whatever you like under your own will” and if students don’t turn up then it isn’t the colleges problem.

What is the difference, in your opinion between the two? From what you’ve said, it seems you view college more positively and that sixth form is more suited to unruly students?

+ 1

Jamesrichardson: Yes there is a library but this isn’t adequate enough. There is no TV/DVD which allows her to play VCR’s or DVD’s in order to stop, rewind and pause them.

Someone mentioned registration..some form of registration is taken in each class so attending a lesson is in effect registration in my opinion. Turning up and registering with the main sixth form or whatever doesn’t mean the students are actually going to their lesson!

Anyway.. thanks for your opinions everyone. I stand by my sister and think that what she is doing is right. Who knows what the outcome will be, but I will certainly tell my parents to bring up the issue of rubbish facilities. I’ll update you all (if you’re interested that is..!)

Maria

I think there must be more to this than in the original post.

Why would a school threaten to "kick out" what is described by Maria as a model student? Would it not be in their best interests, given the current focus on results and league tables to retain her at all costs?

are you for fing real, she is 17 not a adult yet. If she wanted to f*ck around and turn up when she wanted she should have gone to a college to do media studies or hymilayan pottery!!!

6th form is a bit more fomal for a reason.

I cant believe you sugested just because she chose to stay on she should be treated differntly to the rest of the pupils in the school.

you said it she chose to turn up therefore she should obide the rules of the school. If she dosent like that then leave.

If she wants to be treated like an adult maybe she should act like one and learn to toe the line like a real grown up rather than crying off because she cant get her own way.
Chill dude...chill!

Maria. Was your sister told this after failing to attend within those hours without permission?
