Gotta agree with this, in fact. Get something 2nd hand and cheaper and gain some experience on it, keeping some of the budget stashed just in case the worst happens.

I bought my bike new, unrestricted, had been an experienced rider on 125s but had not ridden for a good few years. I dropped it with 13 miles on the clock. It went back to the dealers and had everything replaced, costing my insurers £1000, me the excess of £300 and an increase in premium the next year.

If it had been a bit older, i would have painted the scratches, replaced the indicators and gear lever and carried on.

Overpriced.

I bought a K5 4.5K miles for £2600
Sold my K3, 13.5K miles for £2000

Just trying to put things in perspective.

That's like 2004 gsxr moneys IIRC

mmm anyone want to give me £3600? (and £10k for the insurance)

Although I'll miss the cheap servicing/dropping I get with my bike.

Hindle how old are you? .. my bad if you've stated elseware, regards to insurance etc, my excess is credit crunch so you have to becareful of that also.

Are you able to travel a distance to view? Buying private maybe beneficial for you to save some dollar, get more for your crash, cover costs of a dealer restricting if thats what you want.

eBay is actually a good place to look for bikes IMO, it tells you distance just like autotrader, get the odd bargin every so often. Check item number: 220403538911

Totally understand you, went through the same thing at the weekend mate, got my first big bike. Took a big gamble, slapped the restrictor in, windy, rain, on a motorway for a junction (first time), A road single & dual carriage way the rest.

Only "big bike" I'd previously rode was a ZX636 to get to use power and that was just up to 30 on a straight road.

I'm 17, and my insurance is £566 TPFT, no NCB, no claims etc, Legal Cover, Leather Cover Just £650 excess...... cryy.
