Curvy down on power.
My nephew has just bought sv650x will not reach 90 its just likes running out of fuel. Thought could have been restricted so checked slides n looked for signs of restricting. But no avail no stuck. Don't know much about carb model just so much slower than my sk3. Any help greatly excepted.

Re: help needed sv650 x
Greetings.
There were a few different restrictor kits out there, the most common is the FI kit which uses washers between the carbs and engine block, as well as a throttle stop depending on the year. The other was an official Suzuki Kiit that modified the carb internals. TSM did a guide here many moons ago. Alternatively there may be an issue that has nothing to do with restriction at all. How does it pull in each gear, is it just top speed or down everywhere? Any history with the bike? Performance should be very similar to your SK3 if all is as it should be. As a side note I'm assuming that your nephew has a full unrestricted licence. If not, have a little read up on a few threads on this as the legal side of it and potential consequences has been discussed numerous times and there's no reason to go over any of it in a technical thread. Yes he's been riding years but its his 1st twin but it doesn't sound right to me he says its gutless. But I've been told slides have two holes in if they are restrict but I don't know all new to me

Re: Curvy down on power.
We've just had this issue on a track bike, sounds poor and won't pull much after 85, not entirely sure its fixed as we can't test on the road! But we found a loose front spark plug and has run in the garage better since, they are known for issues with water ingress on the front plug as well, so well worth a look.
Has the bike sat long? I.e. dirty carbs?

Nah, the carb version is just as quick, mine was not short on grunt.
Sounds like a carb strip check and ultrasonically clean is in order, worth doing if he is going to keep the bike. |

Re: Curvy down on power.
Do the R6 throttle tube mod, which shortens the twist action.
Best £10 mod ever
