Re: OMO! Time for new home printer!
Given what laser printers cost now there's no point buying an inkjet imo.
Recently got a Xerox Phaser 6500 with a duplex unit for £145 and its the dogs danglies. Full set of aftermarket toners can be had for £40 and they last and last and last. |

Wow, thanks for responses, will read thru carefully.
I mainly do monochrome, barely any photos. The odd boarding pass. So probably look at the laser options.

Re: OMO! Time for new home printer!
Bear in mind that some printers won't print if one of the cartridges is low/empty. My Epson xp305 won't even print b&w if one of the colour carts are empty. I bought a cis for it but had to send it back as the printer wouldn't recognise it.

Yep, I'm coming round to thinking that long term a lazer printer is better value than an ink jet. I don't like all the sneaky software tricks that stop aftermarket cartridges working, and force you to take it get it serviced, otherwise it won't print.

Re: OMO! Time for new home printer!
I hate inkjets. They were always dried up and clogged or out of alignment or empty due to infrequent use.
I bought a cheap b&w laser for £50 and I've never looked back. It just worked whenever it was needed. This experience was gained over 10 years ago though so perhaps inkjets are better than they used to be. But I'd still stick with a laser every single time. Nowadays though, for the 5 sheets or so I print per year, I just use the one at work

Re: OMO! Time for new home printer!
Bought a Dell 1765 colour laser all in one 3 years ago, with a 3 year warranty for £135 delivered
A full set of toners is only £20, print quality is superb, and it even has a multi sheet feeder scanner. I'd never look back. Definitely the way to go. |

Re: OMO! Time for new home printer!
I've got a brother J41200W. Is a good enough printer, prints a4, a3, double sided, scans, wireless etc etc but more importantly does not flush all it's ink out each time you turn it on to do a single page print. Make sure you check page count for ink but also how much ink is binned just by turning the printer on. This second factor put me onto Brother.
Check out if you can get 3rd party ink too. All cartridges are chipped these days but then again most are available in 3rd party format too at a fraction of the price.
