My import order
I bought a gel seat from the USA a while ago and it looks like it is finally on its way to the UK.
The question I have is that is posted in the USA with USPS (United States Postal Service). Which carrier will deliver it at the UK end to my house? Also how do I go about paying the customs charges??? |

Re: My import order
Dan - the courier comp usually calls you direct to pay for the customs duty if there is any stipulated. Best to ask the sender to write "Happy Birthday Dan" on it (if it was your birthday)... before sending

Re: My import order
The Happy Birthday thing doesnt work.
You only have a £30(ish) gift allowance. To get around this you have to decalre value of item to be less than £30 However if the item is lost then thats the value of the item.... So its a gamble David |

Re: My import order
Yep, I bought some CPU's from the US and the sender put $100 as the value but insured them for £1000 (as they cost $650 each). I still got hit with customs charge of 25% of the value in GBP as well. Ouch!

Re: My import order
OK then. So it looks like this is going to end up costing me more than buying it in the UK. RIP OFF BRITAIN STRIKES AGAIN.
How will I pay the extra VAT and Customs duty that I will be expected to fork out when it arrives to be delivered to my door. The item is coming from the USA via USPS then it seems it will be picked up in the UK by Royal Mail for delivery to my house. Will I therefore have to pay the extra duty to Royal Mail before they will release my parcel? Do I get letter from them telling me they are holding my parcel and I need to bring x amount to get it released??? |
