Apologies if this has been posted before but i did a quick search and didnt find it.
Im wondering if chain lube is really worth the cash? Ive had a £15 spray jobbie of PDL thats almost empty now, probably used up over the best part of a year but probably sub 2000 miles. I think thats seems pretty poor value for monye to me, i ride in all weathers but there are times ill clean it, lube it and go for 80 miles in the rain and its looking rusty again. I dont want to fit a scottolier as this bike will be sold in august(although i think im leaning there for the gsxr that ill have in aug) I know some people use gear oil or engine oil, so i wondered if this is reccomended? |

I use this, or it is something similar. Costs about £3. http://www.carlube.co.uk/index.cfm?product=125
My chain is lubed every 300 miles or so, and cleaned every 1200 miles. |

i use castrol chain wax which i get from halfrauds.
was one of Ride magazines recommended buys. nowhere near as expensive as your stuff stays on well, with minimum fling

Chainsaw oil mixed in to give it anti fling? I have heard the castrol is good, do you get it for £10?

I like Wurth Dry Chain Lube. Not exactly cheap, but does the job without flinging all over your back wheel and surrounding area. Get reasonable life out of chains with it too.

I used to use wurth dry lube but tried their chain wax a while back. I found the wax can lasts twice as long and is easier to apply. Maybe leaves some visible residue on the chain, but who cares? Chain vanity is pretty silly imo!

Best stuff is the castrol "racing" one in the green can... don't like waxes and dry lubes.
In fact... scottoiler and old engine oil... no messing...
