The indicators on my gsxr 600 srad have been a slight problem recently. When i got the bike, the indicators were bulbs all round, the front ones were nice and bright, but the back not so much. So, i swapped out the bulb indicators at the back for led ones. Its probably worth noting that both the led and bulb indys looked just as bright when hooked directly to a 12v battery, and then the same brightness again when fitted to the bike. As i cant ride the bike yet it had been sat for the last few months, just occasionally getting a ride from an insured freind. So the led indys were on, and we went out a week after fitting and they were fine. Today(2 months or so on)i checked some of the electrics whilst looking over the bike as the mot is due. The rear indicators were so dim you could barely see them, and then when i took the cowl off to look at the wiring and resistors, they stopped altogether. Seeing as they stopped at the same time as i moved the wiring i am guessing it is to do with that but at a quick glance it looks ok. I wondered if it could be something else before i pull the wiring apart for a better look?

Occam's Razor.
If the fronts work OK, and the rears start/stop working when you fiddle with the wiring under the seat, then problem is hugely more likely to be under the seat than elsewhere. Do they have a common neutral? If yes, a poor connection there would account for luminous inadequacy at both indicators.

Yes. negative/neutral/earth. All different words for the same thing.
Each indicator has two wires; one live*, one neutral. Only the live is switched so as to turn on and off the indicator, the neutral wires may be connected together and thence to the bike's neutral - hence 'common' as they are as one. If there were a deficiency in that connection, it would account for both rear indicators not working correctly. *Or; positive/hot etc etc.

The neutral wires are not connected at the rear as far as i can see, but they meet at the loom behind a panel that i cant see, so possibly they join there but it doesnt look like it.
EDIT: just taken the wires out of the block connector and reaatched, and now everything seems fine...not sure if there was a dodgy connection but it seemed fine before? Last edited by stuR; 25-06-13 at 04:05 PM. |
