Folks. I've recently replaced the battery on my SV. since then, there's been nothing when I turn the ignition apart from the parking lights working momentarily. They have since stopped. I've given the green connector of doom a wiggle and clean with no joy. There's a 12.9v charge coming from the battery and reached the green connector leading me to think that the problem lies between this and the ignition barrel.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance. |

Are all the fuses intact?
What symptoms led you to change the battery? Have you not been able to start it at all since the battery swap? Was it starting and running OK before the swap? |

The previous battery worked but not enough to turn the engine over. Made the rattle noise. Ignition worked fine, all lights etc.
not battery swapped completely dead. All fuses look ok? |

You may have done this already but it might be worth going RIGHT back to basics - remove both leads from the battery, give the terminals a clean so they're bright & shiny, do the same with the leads, also check the connections at the starter relay. Is the main earth point at the back of the engine OK too?

Sounds maybe like theres a short somewhere, rather than a problem with the battery, might of been the reason the old battery wasn't turning the bike over either.

I've given the connections a scrub and relocated the other end of the earth. There's definitely an earth connection as I've checked it on voltmeter. It's just confusing with the parking lights momentarily working meaning there was a charge going to the ignition. Just nothing when the key is turned as to start the engine. Cut off switch is correct also. Very frustrating 😕

Do the lights go out completely or do they come back on after you have released the starter switch, have you checked the clutch switch is working correctly as it can sometimes stick?

I noticed the parking lights worked when I was messing with it. They've since stopped.
No idea about the clutch but surely this wouldn't stop the ignition lighting up. It's also strange that the battery never sparks when earthed despite having a charge. May be unrelated? |
