Default gear trouble

Hey

last couple of days ive been having problems with my gears

basically problem is, having trouble getting down the gear box if ive got some momentum i can go down the gear box into first fine,if i have have to brake and stop all of a sudden i can only go down 1 or 2 gears at most and it barely goes into first, when trying to change down with clutch in the foot lever is going down but nothing is happening, until i pick the revs up and try again then it does, when at standstill it goes from netral to 1st no problems

dont know if anyone has experinced this chain is ok condition all bits lubbed. bike has done 32k miles in 3 yearssv650sk3.

its going to bike shop for another reason tommorrow and there going to have a look at it, fingers crossed its not a duff gear box!!!

any info greatly appreciated

dave

Do you mean you can't change down several gears when the bike is stationary?I think that is not unusual but can be helped by slightly letting the clutch out between changes.Otherwise you could check the clutch adjustment and the oil level,as this will all affect gear changes.

no even when rolling i cant change down with letting the clutch out between changes, unless moving quickly at higher revs, the main problem is going from second to first gearat any time, oil is all topped up

Errm, the only other things I can think of are, lube the gear lever pivot and linkage, and does the oil need changeing? My gearbox seems to work better after an oil change especially if the oil had been in there a while.

As socomm says, there is a nylon washer in the linkage I think which can perish (sorry if this is duff info...just what the dealers told me)

Your symptoms sound similar to what happened to me.......Suzuki changed it under warranty

No Torn...thankfully its just attached to the Gear Linkage Rod coming from your gear lever.

Not much of a job I think....trawl the history on this forum, I'm sure there was a description of how to change it somewhere.......although this might not be your specific problem.

Is your chain tensioned correctly ? This can also affect your gear changes.
