These wireless things are a nightmare
![]() ![]() I tried removing the encryption on the network and tried setting it up manually but it still couldn't find it. Should my router be working, or do I need to get one that specifically works with my new laptop ![]() |

Have you enabled wireless on the router and on the laptop? Even if the wireless network is encrypted the laptop will still see it, it just won;t be able to connect to it.

Check the settings of your router to see if 'broadcast SSID' (or similar wording) is enabled. If it's disabled your laptop won't be able to search & find it, you'd have to configure everything manually.

There's often a hardware button you need to press to enable wireless, sometimes a tiny slider on the front or recessed button. The windows wireless thing won't tell you this, it will just say there's none available.

i currently have a D-Link set up for my house ........had problems for the first couple of days could'nt get any joy out of it .....so i phoned D-Link to ask for advice.....how stupid did i feel
![]() i did'nt realise that you have to configure the router manually by physically connecting it to a PC or laptop...just until the router picks up the connection and detects your settings....then the settings are stored online...hey presto...disconnect the cables and you are wireless....kind of makes sense when you think about it hth
