My cbr's a write off. Couldn't believe it. Letter through the post today. Really ****es me off. Northy...you and me and mechano. Advice needed. Is it worth getting the salvage? Still need to get photos.
IIRC the damage was front nosecone, left fairings, tank, the usual levers. Whats my position with the new can I fitted a week before? Still have the stock can. I want to go to the storage depot, remove it and fit the stock can back. The sott oiler was fitted last week as well. Thinking I can get a link pipe and fit the blue flame to the zxr. |

![]() Not too sure from the insurance side what you can do atm though. They either have to take the can and oiler into account in your payout, or return them, I believe- they can argue that they're not covered and refuse to pay out on them, but if they do then they're exempting them from the insured item and have no claim to ownership. I'd be trying to get an exact payout price, and an offer price for the salvage, and most important an exact damage breakdown. And move quick, too, I've heard stories of insurers selling the salvage on even before the offer's accepted- totally dodgy but once it's done, it's done. Unbelievable what gets written of these days... Wish I had the room to take on some repairables.

Just spoke to the ins company. Given me permission to get the can and oiler off so that's a bonus. Will be taking photos. I think I can get it back - offer plus salvage then do it up I suppose. I think an 03 nosecone is quite expensive but I won't know till I see it. Spoke to the police this afternoon. Have to send of stuff about blame to the insurance and stuff. Police have confirmed him as "driver one" which is the driver at fault. Have to cover all angles apparently as sometimes people will just deny it altogether. Clear cut as this case seems. I just want my bike back though...all this insurance hassle gives me a headache. |

My experience - sent bike to my favourite garage to be estimated and arranged my ins. company's assessor to view at the same time. The ins. assessor saw the bike first & wrote it off so no itemised list of damage was prepared.
I immediately moved the bike to free storage (my garage!) Insurance company made me an offer of what I valued it at when I took out the policy - so no scope for arguing there! and in the same letter asked for the bike to be made available for collection or was available for £x salvage value non-negotiable. |
