How does my selector look? - cant get 3rd gear

I am in the process of doing a k3 engine rebuild initially because i cant get past 2nd gear which points towards a selector fork failure ...

all i need is a 2nd opinion from those in the know who can look at the following pics & see if you can spot a problem or give me a ok before i do the full split .. ta!

Don't know if I'm getting the wrong end of the stick here but your selector forks are actually within the engine casings and slot in to the input/output shafts to move the cogs around to lock into a certain gear.

On the way out now but will try and get a picture and put it up later.

For now look here

Post number three and second or third picture up from the bottom of the post shows the gear box

Correct. The parts pictured are not the selector forks, they are the detent and selector mechanism and they appear fine. However a bit more dismantling of those bits will allow a closer inspection of the the claws and pins, where the fault *could* lie. And even if there's nothing apparently amiss once those parts are removed, the selector drum itself could then be manually rotated which will confirm if the gears themselves can be manipulated into engagement, if yes then problem would appear to be in the assembly pictured, if no then an internal fault is confirmed.

The selector forks are inside the cases around the gear pinions themselves.

Following on from this thread above ages ago, when i happened i heard a definite clunk & rattle around of a loose part around the sump area. I'm using the wrong descriptions of what parts i am looking at - ta for reminding me - i think even with the selector mech dismantled i will still get the problem.
(im still trying to learn how a sequential gearbox works and how i can manually check/test it before i split/build the cases)

According To the sv650s manual engine 3-85 page the (3) 3rd/4th gearshift (selector) fork - is probably the problem.

Was just heading into work, just got about 5 mins from parking up in a town centre 20-30 mph and it went clunk rattle when i selected 3rd gear. i was able to go up and down 3,4,5,6th gears but when i dropped down to 2nd i couldnt get it back up to 3rd. when i tried to select 3rd the shift pedal was just solid pulling it up to change. The were no noises of crunching though. bike could start up and neutral, 1st & 2nd worked fine. Bike could be started & would heat up to temp & idle with no problems. Had around 14-15k when it went.

If you have problems rotating manually it may help if you turn the shaft above by hand at the same time
