Hello from FREEZZING Canada!
I just bought a 99 sv650 and Im doing maintenance on it. I removed the airbox to gain access to the carbs but I have no idea how I'm going to put it back in since the rubber carb/box adapters have clamps with the screws pointing in very akward directions. Is there a trick to getting this back on? I thought of clamping the rubber onto the carbs and then with the filter removed pulling the rubber over the box inlets... however akward thats too. Anyone??? |

I did this and just found it bloody awkward. Second time round it was a little easier but still a fiddly pain. Not much help but I feel your pain!

The below diagram shows the correct position for the clamps.
Problem is owners change the clamps for ordinary hose clips but the OEM ones have a "tang" that locates in the box and prevents it from moving when you try and do it up and push against it. I'm guessing the front clamp is the problem. I used 1/4 inch drive extension bars joined together with a crosshead adaptor on the end, or just buy a suitably long crosshead driver. HTH ![]() |

The way I do it is to have the front rubber attatched to the carb, the rear one placed in the airbox, the and the clamp loose
Place it in position, connect the breather hoses (makes a real mess if you forget) then push the airbox onto the front boot gently. .. try and get the rear located onto the carb. When the rear slides on then reach inside and get the lip pulled over the inside of the airbox. Bit of a knack to it, but it takes me about 30 seconds to put one back on.

I do it exactly the same- and I take the filter out so I can see what's going on. Oh, and I replaced the chewed-up screws with teeny tiny allen bolts.

this was surprisingly easy to do. I just rotated the boots on the airbox obviously not mating the boots indent to the airbox's slot (you know, the key hole that marks where it lines up) until the screw heads were pointing in a easy to reach position with a screwdriver.
